Blog 8 - personal development and reflection
During our creative process, we have taken into account the feedback we received and incorporated more complex and diverse movements in our piece to enhance the clarity of our message and make it more appealing to the audience.
Originally, our research for the piece was inspired by the TV show 'The Traitors', which led us to explore how different individuals fit into society and the human condition. We divided our piece into sections, each focused on a different character we aimed to portray to the audience. In the first section, we embodied a masculine figure and explored themes of power and control within society. The second section contrasted the masculine character with a feminine figure. This contrast was highlighted in the music, which was more playful, and the livelier movements. In this section, I remained a masculine figure while the other three girls embodied the feminine side, further emphasizing the difference. The movement style in the second section was also more jazz-inspired, taking inspiration from the Charleston style. As I was not familiar with this style, I watched videos of professional dancers trained in the style to help me embody my character as a masculine figure.
In the process of creating our performance piece, our group has encountered some differences in our choreography due to our varied movement styles. Personally, I found it challenging to adapt to a style that is not within my comfort zone. With the deadline fast approaching, we have a lot of material to cover, and it is critical that we focus on completing the piece as soon as possible. This will ensure that we have enough time to clean and perfect the details before the upcoming assessment next week. (Strictly Come Dancing - BBC One 2013)
